Being Too Loyal Equals to Negative Consequences

Most of the time people think loyalty is a positive thing; loyalty means people will trust you. However sometimes it can be taken too far. When you’re overly loyal to your friends, family, or work it can be damaging to yourself.

Firstly sometimes when you’re too loyal to your friends it can be harmful. Peer pressure is one way to show loyalty in a friendship, but it is harmful to one another. As we all know, peer pressure can make us do something bad that we don’t really want to do. Smoking, drinking or hurting someone else are some of the most common examples around us.

            Secondly there are situations for being too loyal to your family that can be damaging. Sometimes these situations are when your family has demanding rules in the house. The expectation that you have to assume the beliefs of your family religion in order to show the respect. Furthermore the sexual orientation is to be straight with no exceptions. As a result of pleasing your parents you are hiding from who you are.

            Thirdly there are times were you being loyal at work is a risk you don’t want to take. Following unreasonable expectations from your colleagues can put you in uncomfortable and even risky situations. The boss making you work over time results in taking time away from your family and you’re personal needs. Another example would be ripping people off just to benefit the company by making people purchase the most expensive product even though you know they cannot afford it or the product isn’t suitable to their needs.

            In summary then, being too loyal has way too many disadvantages over benefits. Be careful not to be too loyal because you can harm people around you and subsequently yourself.
