Power can be one of two things, a gift or a punishment. In most cases, people take advantage of their power so it turns out to be a punishment. This all starts with the amount of power the person beholds. Having power can corrupt the one who possess it and ruin the holders and their loved ones lives. The consequences for abusing power can be substantial. It begins with how others notice the abuse of power, then goes into how power affects them, and ends with the aftermath and chaos left over. There are many ways that power can take over, and in most cases it will. This is what happens when one has been granted to much power.

To begin, it is almost unrecognizable for the holder of power to realize that it is corrupting them. This is where those around the individuals come in, because only they notice that the holder of power is beginning to abuse it. To start, others will first start to notice the abuse when the holder begins to do things that benefit them and only themselves. This is often the first sign of corruptness being to creep in, yet many can’t do anything about it because they know change is occurring. This then intersects with the fact that next sign is that others will begin to see the change holder of power. Everything from attitude to language will be different and will stare to watch. Furthermore, the real kicker that lets others know that power is corrupting the holder is the fact that the holder will oppose any argument against them and take advantage of the situation. For example, if a co-worker recently got promoted and you disagree because of their work ethic, they might crack down on you and be harsher to you because thjey can now take advantage of you.  Corruptness can and will start to the dismay of the holder, but to the horror of the bystanders.

Once power has taken control, everything will slowly but surely turn into a living hell for those around the holder of power. To begin, they will become nearly unstoppable. Reason being is the fact that there is very little other can do out of straight fear because anything they do might come back and stab them in the back. For example, if an employee was promoted and now has a higher rank than the average worker, and you oppose anything they do, they might bring you down, fire you, or threaten you because of the complete power trip they are on. One who has been corrupted with power will always take advantage. Moreover, once power has taken control many are now afraid to react and do anything about the one who has been corrupted. Take into account King Zhou of China. The man was so evil and powerful that many were too afraid to challenge the man I any way shape or form.  The final thing that happens once power has taken over is that many lives are destroyed, including their own life. Once the power trip has come and gone, everything is devastated and torn. Many will see the changes that have been made in their life. The holder of power once corrupted, becomes a flesh ripping dagger, destroying all who stand in its way.

If the one corrupt of power is managed to be taken down, the aftermath of it all is unbearable and terrible. Firstly, relationships will be torn after power has taken over. Many who were once close will be ripped away like a piece of Velcro from another. Furthermore, this then leads into the loss of trust from everyone. If the holder of power is ever able to recover, trust will not be. People will have no reason to trust someone who has been corrupted again. An example of this would be a president losing an election. People would have lost their trust so why would they have voted for them again. Finally, the aftermath will lead to lose of judgement between what is right and what is wrong. The person who held so much power who made irrational decisions will now struggle to decide what to do to try to win anything back. The aftermath of one who was once corrupt with power is a cold and terrifying fate.

All in all, one who has too much power will indeed get corrupted. It all depends in the way how the power will take over, what happens when power does, and the aftermath that assumes after.  Many may hold different kinds of power but in the end, it will end up consuming the holder. It just might be different how it does and what chaos assumes afterword. To conclude, power will turn the nicest of people to absolute devils, so just watch out for one who might transform.

Power Always Corrupts the One Who Holds It

            Everyone knows the saying “With great power comes great responsibility.” And throughout history, this has been a hot topic. In fact, it has been debated upon, proven and repeated numerous times by every living being in our world. As people get more power, there are three main sequences that happen. The person will start getting arrogant and will depend on their own judgement. Then, the person will start to abuse his or her power and make impactful decisions. Finally, the person will become fully corrupted and will become a tyrant if they are around others weaker than them. However, this is preventable if the person is not left alone with power.

            If people are left with power and freedom, they will gain vanity as they take pride in their accomplishments and possessions. An example is found in Julius Caesar, by William Shakespeare. In act one, Caesar thinks so highly of himself that he does not even interact with the Soothsayer, who is warning him. He only gets the Soothsayers message when Brutus delivers it. In addition, he sometimes speaks about himself in third person. This symbolizes that he thinks of himself as a god or a being of mass authority, even though he is just a powerful human ruler. People with freedom and power like Julius Caesar are almost certainly satisfied, and will do a lot in order to keep them. Thus, corruption ensues.

            After the person begins to be proud of themselves, their actions will show this. This is where it is not only small comments or thoughts. This means decisions about how their surrounding area is run. For example, after the French Revolution, Napoleon took over France entirely after seeing that the directors were corrupted. He had the audacity to do this because he thought of himself as a good supreme ruler. In the beginning of his rule, Napoleon started out well. This was because he shared power with his advisors. However, he later absorbed all power for himself because he was caught in ambition. Eventually, this led to his dictatorship of France. This stage is where the person with power begins to make meaningful decisions with negative impacts to all surrounding people.

            As people are left to keep gaining power, they will most likely end up as a tyrant. If their power was controlled earlier however, they would not have any chance of becoming corrupted. This is because power is the basis of control and leadership. Napoleon’s power was not controlled in time for him not to become a dictator. On the other hand, Julius Caesar was killed by Conspirators as his power and support from the mass public was rising. The Senate was the replacement for him and because it was a special group it was not as corrupted as Caesar. This is due to the fact the Senate has a share in power and the leader is not a person, but it is the majority of votes. Therefore, Rome was saved from a complete dictatorship.

            Power is necessary to lead a group, as without it, a group could not function and it would be in anarchy. However, there needs to be a limit on how power is given, because it can blind the one who holds it. Without this control, the person will likely go down the path of becoming a total dictator. No one is perfect, and past events like Julius Caesar and Napoleon have proven that no one can lead a large group of people alone. This is why co-operation and teamwork is so highly praised.

 

        Last Monday, there was a slam poet at our school all day. We were lucky enough to go see him during our English class last block. Slam poetry is a type of competitive poetry where the speaker puts his feelings/experiences into words and recites the poem fast. Our speakers name was Zack Jackson and he came from a Native background. Everybody in the audience seemed to really enjoy his performance.
        Zack recited a few poems that reflected his darker past. Before he came, I never knew or understood what slam poetry was. However, after seeing him, I enjoyed it very much. I really liked how before he started reciting his poems, he tried to connect and engage with all the teenagers in the room. He talked about things such as games that are popular, spoke the way teenagers do instead of speaking formally, and kept making jokes. Once Zack got to his poems, he was very good at speaking quickly, but clearly, and using many hand gestures. His hand gestures and different tones of voice really kept me interested and focused on his poetry. You could hear the emotion through his voice and he spoke with such description, you could even imagine everything he was talking about without having to see it. Since I didn't know anything about slam poetry, I was not sure what to expect. However, the friends I talked to that went to listen to Zack before me all gave me very positive reviews and said he was very good, which made me look forward to seeing him. In the end I ended up really liking his poems. If Zack or any other slam poet came to our school again, I would definitely like to go see it again because I ended up really liking slam poetry.

Being Too Loyal Equals to Negative Consequences

Most of the time people think loyalty is a positive thing; loyalty means people will trust you. However sometimes it can be taken too far. When you’re overly loyal to your friends, family, or work it can be damaging to yourself.

Firstly sometimes when you’re too loyal to your friends it can be harmful. Peer pressure is one way to show loyalty in a friendship, but it is harmful to one another. As we all know, peer pressure can make us do something bad that we don’t really want to do. Smoking, drinking or hurting someone else are some of the most common examples around us.

            Secondly there are situations for being too loyal to your family that can be damaging. Sometimes these situations are when your family has demanding rules in the house. The expectation that you have to assume the beliefs of your family religion in order to show the respect. Furthermore the sexual orientation is to be straight with no exceptions. As a result of pleasing your parents you are hiding from who you are.

            Thirdly there are times were you being loyal at work is a risk you don’t want to take. Following unreasonable expectations from your colleagues can put you in uncomfortable and even risky situations. The boss making you work over time results in taking time away from your family and you’re personal needs. Another example would be ripping people off just to benefit the company by making people purchase the most expensive product even though you know they cannot afford it or the product isn’t suitable to their needs.

            In summary then, being too loyal has way too many disadvantages over benefits. Be careful not to be too loyal because you can harm people around you and subsequently yourself.

Act 1 Essay

Loyalty is expressed as a positive and brought into this world being a good thing, and it is. However, this does not mean that there are no negative consequences for being too loyal. Loyalty is defined as honesty, love, respect, and devotion. But that does not mean that it does not have its share of problems. Being loyal to someone results in a lot of positives and negative consequences but ultimately, it is worth it to be too loyal than to not be loyal at all.

To begin, the commitment one shows is often rewarded with a good reputation, success, and trust. Loyalty is an important element for opportunities. For example, a person may get a job over someone else because they are known to be loyal and trustworthy. This then, brings them to a wide range of possibilities to further impress their boss and succeed. Also, loyalty is beneficial to not one person, but many around them. In cases when loyalty is required like during times of war, a country will always be worrying about whether its army will betray them or not. Therefore, loyalty not only brings benefits to the individual showing loyalty, but also to the person the individual is committing to. Furthermore, loyalty can cause a person to be happy because it means someone cares and to make someone happy, which leads to them trusting you. Trust is the ultimate prize for it can supply you with loyalty back, protection, or other benefits. These are only some of the many positives that loyalty brings to the table.

However, loyalty can also be a double edged sword, fore there are negatives to being too loyal. For example, when a person commits to someone else with a lot of loyalty selflessly, they often will experience loss of personal judgement and decision making. This makes them more of a slave rather than someone free. Moreover, although loyalty is not forced but due to will, one should still remember to have their own opinions and decide for themselves. An example of this would be if someone has offered to a bad deed and they want them to sacrifice themselves or commit crime, this person needs to be able to have his own judgements and say no when needed. This leads to another negative which is that sometimes people could be so loyal that they are distracted and cannot see that people can take advantage of them. If you are really loyal and someone does something that is not right, you would not want to do anything about it. If you said something to them, it might hurt them and you might feel like you’re being disloyal. Loyalty can be as deadly as karma.

Despite the many positive and negatives of loyalty, it is most fair to say that the benefits of loyalty outweigh the negatives. One reason is that a double sided loyalty will create a long lasting relationship where both parties involved are happy. It will not create tension between the two in most cases. To start, being loyal to someone not only helps you out, but the other person too. Because of this, it provides satisfaction to both people rather than not being loyal at all which might only benefit one if at all.          

With all things considered, loyalty is overall a lot like chocolate. Good for your mood, but possibly bad at the same time for your health if too much is eaten. Therefore, loyalty is almost always beneficial; however, there are times it brings negative impacts. In order to achieve success, one must learn to stop when the negative consequences outweigh the positive consequences.

Are there positive and negative consequences for being too loyal

            Loyalty is one of the most important things you could give or earn in a relationship. Being too loyal to someone comes with both positive and negative outcomes. It also teaches you valuable life lessons that prepare you for any other relationships with different people. You should always be careful when choosing who you decide to be loyal to.

            Positive outcomes depend on the person you are loyal to. Being too loyal to someone is not the best idea. However if you are, you must make sure that you will get the same loyalty in return. If the person is loyal to you in return, they will not take you for granted which will build trust in the relationship. Trust and loyalty are two important things that will lead to happiness. When loyalty is double-sided, it brings two people closer together and maintains a long-lasting relationship. All of these positive outcomes will lead to a healthy relationship.

            On the other hand, there are also plenty of negative outcomes. Sometimes one person can be loyal while the other person is not. One-sided loyalty leads to disappointment and betrayal. One-sided loyalty creates anger, jealously and tension which often tends to ruin relationships. Being too loyal also means that you are becoming too attached. When one person cares more than the other person, this will annoy both people which is another negative outcome that could ruin the relationship that you have with that person.

            Either way, both outcomes will teach you a valuable lesson that will help you in the future. It will teach you how to create double-sided loyalty which is very important in any kind of relationship. Once both sides are loyal, this will most likely not lead to betrayal since it is something neither of you will want to lose. It will also help you realize who truly cares about you. You must set standards for the way you want to be treated. The way people act towards you will show you the ones that care and the ones that do not. It will also teach you how to create long-term relationships. If you have gotten betrayed in the past, stop thinking of this as a negative outcome and start thinking of what you could do to avoid that kind of problem in your next relationship. No matter what the outcome is, you will always be able to build off of your mistakes and learn how to fix them. This way you have a greater chance of positive outcomes in the end.

            Therefore, loyalty comes with all kinds of promises. The more loyal you are, the greater the chance of getting hurt. Being too loyal or not loyal enough will bring you many problems in a relationship. Make sure you have an equal amount of loyalty between two people because that will create trust for both people. Having said that, being too loyal guarantees you either positive or negative outcomes and in some cases, both.

Strange Events in the Natural world can be signs of things to come in our lives Throughout our
history, we have experienced millions of unusual events occurring in our natural world. However, in the past, scientists have noted that some of these abnormal natural events occur before the inexplicable personal incidents.That they may possibly be related. Furthermore, unusual weather impacting human lives, asteroids hitting Earth and humans becoming slaves to technology are all examples that prove this link. Appropriately, it is evident that strange events in the natural world can be signs of things to come in our lives. Unusual weather in the environment can be detrimental to our world. In fact, these natural disasters are a clear sign that we are already experiencing the impacts of climate change. Take flooding across the UK for example. Four of the five wettest years recorded in the UK have happened from 2000 on wards. Over that period of time, they have also had seven warmest years. That is not a coincidence. This is a pattern of global change that it would be very unwise to ignore. The shift to such a world can cause mass migrations of millions of people away from the worst-affected areas. That will lead to conflict and war, not peace and prosperity. Even more frightening is the fact that if emissions do not get cut, we can potentially face even more devastating consequences; they could raise the global average temperature to 4C. We should keep in mind that the last time the global temperature was 5C different from today, the Earth was gripped by an ice age. Therefore, it is essential that the government use this opportunity to drive the economic growth and avoid the enormous risks of unmanaged climate change. Not only are we facing violent climate change but the occurrence of the asteroid is something we should not ignore. In fact, the most famous asteroid is the one that hit Earth sixty five years ago. It is thought that the asteroid threw so much moisture and dust it cut off sunlight. lowering temperatures worldwide and causing the extinction of the dinosaurs. Researchers detected that a giant space rock scheduled on March 21 2014 would sweep close to the Earth and fast enough to devastate a continent should a collision occur. However, the chances of impact are minuscule, even more minuscule than winning the National Lottery jackpot. Scientists believed such event as happened over the years Urals only occur approximately once every one hundred fifty years. Now the frequency of such an event is estimated to be every 30 years. It is very likely that an asteroid with one million megaton bomb would wipe out most of the life on the planet therefore, scientists say early warning systems need to be put in place in order to safeguard future events. The fact than an asteroid can devastate our whole planet brings about the most alarming event: humans becoming slaves to technology. From the moment we wake up to the shrill of the alarm clock, to the second we turn off the television before we sleep, the constant buzzing, beeping and buzzing sounds from our gadgets are supposed to make our lives easier. Moreover, a person could theoretically live their entire life without leaving their home. They could order food, clothing, shopping and even get music from the comfort of their personal computers. Even more frightening is the fact children are no longer playing hide and seek together on the playground. but are virtually playing hide and seek on the internet. Therefore, the cycle of estrangement continues , further destroying our sense of belonging. Our dependency on technology has decreased our quality of life in terms of the connection we share with other human beings and our own personal health and well-being. Evidently, in the future, we not only could be controlled by technology but also create alienation among individuals. As proven, the strange events in the nature can predict things to come in our future. All the different strange events pose reliable facts and numerous examples, which give us no reason to not believe them. These incidents are not cannot just be coincidence, there has to be some sort of connection. We should use opportunity to get prepared for what can be asset to our evolution. The proof is present; that strange events in our world can signify what is to come in our future.
